Samsung Enters Tri-Fold Market with Galaxy Z TriFold as Chinese Competition Intensifies
Samsung Electronics unveiled its Galaxy Z TriFold on Monday, marking the company's first foray into multi-folding smartphones. The device features three panels that unfold to a 10-inch display—positioning it just below iPad screen territory—and will debut in South Korea on December 12 priced at $2,449. A U.S. launch is slated for Q1 2026.
The MOVE comes as Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers gain traction in the foldable market. Huawei released its second-generation trifold device in September, underscoring the intensifying competition in high-end smartphone innovation. Samsung's offering includes the largest foldable battery to date and measures 12.9mm thick when folded.
Industry projections suggest foldables will remain a niche segment, accounting for under 3% of global smartphone shipments by 2027. The launch coincides with growing institutional interest in tech-adjacent crypto assets like AI and IoT tokens, though no direct cryptocurrency partnerships were announced.
